[ About glass shelves ]

What goes into a glass shelves project.

Custom glass shelving is small work that finishes a room — tempered glass cut to an exact opening for a niche, a bar back, a bathroom recess or open display. Because a shelf carries load, the glass is tempered for strength and safe breakage, in ¼″ for most spans and ½″ where a shelf runs long or is expected to hold real weight. Thinner glass will sag or feel flimsy across an open span, so thickness is matched to length and support rather than chosen by default. Finishes run clear, bronze and gray-satin tint, with polished or beveled edges since the front edge of a shelf is always on display. Mounting is where the detail lives: wall brackets for a utilitarian run, a recessed channel for a floating look, or floating-pin standoffs where the shelf should appear to hover with no visible support. For a buyer the considerations are the span between supports, the weight the shelf will actually carry, and whether the wall can anchor the chosen mount. We measure the opening on site — a niche is rarely perfectly square — and cut to the real dimensions at the Carrollton shop, usually with same-week turnaround on standard pieces. Shelving is steady residential work across Carrollton, Plano and Richardson, often added at the end of a bathroom or kitchen remodel to tie the space together.
